Dr. Daniel Yumbya, the Health Executive of Machakos County Government, has resigned. During a press briefing at his office in Machakos Level 5 Hospital on Thursday, Yumbya announced his resignation without providing specific reasons. He also shared a copy of his resignation letter, titled “Resignation from the Position of CECM Health,” which was addressed to Governor Wavinya Ndeti, with the press.
“Reference is made to the above. I hereby tender my resignation as the County Executive Member for Health effective from the date of this letter,” his letter dated August 1, 2024 reads in part.
“I wish to thank you for the opportunity you accorded me to serve in your cabinet,” the letter reads.
Yumbya said he was appointed a Minister for Health in Machakos County Government in November 2022.
Before that, Yumbya said he had served as the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council as the CEO.
“I resigned to come and join the County Government of Machakos as a minister. I have served with diligence and to my ability. However, today I want to say that as the Bible says in Eccilaisis 3: there is time for everything. Time to cry and time to laugh. There is a time to come in and a time to leave. My time to leave the department as Minister for Health in Machakos County Government has come,” Yumbya said.
Yumbya said reasons for his resignation shouldn’t be speculated noting that, “all are included on his three-paragraph letter.
His resignation comes a few weeks after Ndeti sacked her chief of staff Lawrence Ngovi.
