A 32-year-old Tanzanian man created a dramatic scene at a public health facility after resorting to an extraordinary act of protest when staff would not let him in to see his hospitalised family.
Dickson Juma, a resident of Kiabakari in Butiama District, arrived at Nyasho Health Centre in Musoma Municipality on the morning of September 9, 2026, hoping to check on his wife and child, both of whom were admitted at the facility.
When security personnel stopped him and directed him to follow the hospital’s entry procedures, he refused to comply.
Man Climbs Flagpole in Protest
Rather than adhering to the facility’s rules, Juma reportedly removed all his clothing and scaled the national flagpole on the hospital grounds at around 10 am, apparently believing the stunt would pressure authorities into granting him access to his relatives.
The move drew immediate attention and prompted hospital management to contact the police. Officers from the Mara Regional Police responded and arrested Juma at the scene.
He now faces charges of trespassing and causing a disturbance at a public health institution, with investigators expected to take the matter to court once the necessary legal procedures are finalised.
Following the incident, the Mara Regional Police issued a public statement calling on members of the community to respect the regulations governing public institutions.
Officers warned that disregarding such rules could lead to disruption and legal consequences.
