Drama unfolded at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) over the weekend as a Nigerian national resisted deportation to his home country.
Dolapo James Adepoju, a Nigerian businessman accused of involvement in cybercrime, caused a scene at the airport on Sunday, April 7, 2024, leading to his arrest.
“He was arrested for causing a disturbance at the airport,” police said.
Adepoju was arrested along with other Nigerian nationals in March 2024, but he accused immigration officials of torturing him.
He also accused them of stealing money from his bank account.
Adepoju is among other Nigerian nationals arrested for being in the country illegally.
The head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mohamed Amin, said recently that operations against illegal drugs in the country were progressing well.
“We have made good progress in the ongoing nationwide enforcement programme against illegal alcohol, narcotics and psychotropic substances. We will not stop,” he said.
According to him, teams were handling the deportation and removal of foreign nationals involved in drug trafficking, money laundering and cybercrime activities.
The Immigration Department said seven Nigerian nationals were recently deported for being in the country illegally.
Those deported were also accused of being involved in credit card fraud and selling drugs in Nairobi estates.
Other offences include possession of forged documents, fake passports and counterfeit dollars.
Police are also concerned about a trend of women being lured by foreigners into the drug trade.
According to officers, the women enter the business to earn quick money.
