Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has said the government will not hesitate to take action against Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s family if they fail to surrender their firearms.
He said the family should surrender the firearms to the Head of Firearms Licensing board as directed without fail.
“Even if you continue crying out about your children and mother, we don’t care about that, the law will catch up with you. Look for the Head of Licensing Board boss Rashid Yakub and return all the guns to him,” he said.
Duale went ahead to warn the retired president on the claims that he has been funding the protests led by the opposition.
“If you (Uhuru Kenyatta) together with your family continue funding the anti-government protests and keeping the guns, you are going against the law,” he said.
Uhuru has however denied claims that he is funding the protests while the government has not provided evidence to back the claims.
While denying involvement, the President posed:
“Have you seen me in any of those events? Have you seen me talk about any of those events?”
The defence CS told Uhuru to withdraw from politics and let the current government do its work without interference.
“You were a president’s son, we gave you 10 years to govern the country. We want your family to live the way Mwai Kibaki and Daniel Moi lived after retirement,” Duale said.
Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday finally spoke on the allegations that he is funding the Azimio anti-government protests.
He said he wondered if the accusations came about because of his association with Azimio leader Raila Odinga.
“I’m I not supposed to talk to my friends? Is that a crime in Kenya today? Maybe you should tell me,” he said.
