The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok for allegedly embezzling county funds.

The EACC told Citizen Digital on Thursday that Barchok was apprehended on Thursday morning and that commission officers raided his residence.

The operation is part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of conflict of interest and public fund theft in Bomet County, in which the Governor is a suspect.

Following processing, Barchok will be escorted to the EACC South Rift Regional Offices in Nakuru for statement recording.

In November 2024, a group of Bomet lawmakers called on the EACC to investigate Barchok for alleged misappropriation of county funds.

At the time, the commission was probing eight Bomet County officials over alleged embezzlement of Sh1.5 billion.

EACC was targeting CECs, Chief Officers, and Senior county officers, over the embezzlement in fraudulent payments to companies allegedly owned by unnamed County officials.
