The Ethics And Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested former senior Nyamira County officials for irregularly hiring 56 staff members in the Department of Gender, Youth, Culture, and Social Services.

According to the Commission, four former officials are in custody at Kisii Central Police Station pending arraignment in court on Tuesday, March 4.

The suspects include Peter Omwanza Ogwara (former Nyamira County Executive Committee Member), Beatrice Mokeira Siribah (former Commissioner Nyamira County Public Service Board), Chadwick Maranga Sangara (former Principal Culture Officer) and Geoffrey Ogeto Michira (former Assistant Director Administration).

Investigations conducted by EACC revealed that the suspects hired the officers through a tainted process by corruption, nepotism and clannism.

The latest EACC quarterly report revealed the extent in which corruption has prevailed across counties, exposing how county officials and governors’ spouses have misused public funds worth billions.

In 2024, the commission filed 51 cases, of which 47 were forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for prosecution, two were filed for administrative action and the rest were filed for closure.
