Controversial blogger Edgar Obare has dismissed reports claiming that he has sold his well-known Instagram gossip page, BNN, terming the claims as false.

Addressing his followers on Instagram on Monday, December 29, 2025, Obare said he had noticed growing concern among fans who believed the platform had already changed ownership.

“I want to address the concerns of some of you who are worried that we already sold BNN. That is fake news. I have not sold BNN,” Obare stated.

Obare clarified that while there have been enquiries from interested parties, no deal has been concluded. He also noted that some celebrities had attempted to use the rumours to gain attention, something he described as expected.

“There have been enquiries, and some celebrities (Booty Eater ) even chased clout with the sale, as expected,” he disclosed.

Reassuring his audience, Obare said he would be transparent if anything changed in the future.

“If anything changes, I will make an announcement,” he said, adding, “We value all your support.”

On Monday, December 15, 2025, Obare shared on his Instagram Stories that BNN Ltd, including all its digital assets, brand identity, data, and trademarks, is officially up for sale.

The defamation case

The announcement included a clear notice that only serious buyers would be considered, with a deposit required to initiate negotiations.

“FOR SALE. BNN LTD All digital assets, brand, data, and trademarks. Serious Enquiries Only. *Deposit Required,” read the announcement.

The sale came after a Nairobi court issued a landmark ruling in a defamation suit, ordering Obare to pay Ksh6 million in damages and publicly apologise to model Bernice Nunah and co-plaintiff Kelvin Kaume Maingi over a 2022 post.

Delivered on November 7, 2025, by Hosea Mwangi Nganga in Civil Case No. E6364 of 2022 underscores the high legal risks associated with defamatory content published online.

The court granted the two plaintiffs Ksh4 million in general damages (Ksh2 million each) and Ksh2 million in exemplary and aggravated damages (Ksh1 million each).

Beyond the monetary award, he was ordered to issue a full, unconditional apology, to correct and withdraw the defamatory publication dated December 22, 2022, and to comply with a permanent injunction preventing him from issuing further defamatory statements about Nunah.
