Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has been replaced by Catherine Omanyo in the Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
In a statement on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, the ODM Party said the decision was reached after a meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC) held in Mombasa.
“The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) held its meeting in Mombasa on 11th February 2026 to deliberate on critical party matters and the prevailing political environment,” part of the ODM Party statement reads.

According to the statement, the meeting involved extensive consultations and deliberations on internal party affairs, leadership conduct, and the general direction of the party.
The NEC emphasized that its decisions were anchored on the party constitution and established governance structures.
“The NEC expressed grave concern over the rising levels of indiscipline within the Party, particularly at the senior leadership level,” the statement reads. It further notes that “ODM is governed by its Constitution, the rule of law, and collective decision-making through its duly constituted organs.”
It is within this context that the NEC resolved to remove Senator Sifuna from his position as Secretary General.
“Having deliberated on matters relating to the conduct of the Secretary General Sen. Edwin Sifuna, the NEC resolved to remove him from office with immediate effect in accordance with the Party Constitution and applicable laws,” the statement reads.

The party announced that Catherine Omanyo, who had been serving as Deputy Secretary General, will take over in an acting capacity.
“Effectively, the Deputy Secretary General Hon. Catherine Omanyo will act in this position until a substantive holder of the position is elected,” the ODM statement says.
The party framed the change as part of normal organizational processes aimed at maintaining order, discipline, and continuity. It reassured members and supporters that the transition would not disrupt party operations.
Beyond the leadership change, the NEC also reaffirmed its broader values and guiding principles.

“The NEC reaffirmed ODM’s commitment to democratic governance, constitutionalism, social justice, and the pursuit of a broad-based, inclusive, and reform-oriented government that reflects the will and aspirations of the Kenyan people,” the statement reads.
ODM also announced plans to convene a National Delegates Convention later in March, where key party decisions will be discussed and ratified, and preparations for future activities will be made.
The statement concluded by emphasizing unity and institutional strength, noting that all resolutions were taken in good faith and in the best interests of the party.
“Issued at Mombasa, this 11th day of February 2026,” the statement reads.
