Eight people feared dead after being swept away by floods in Makueni

At least eight people are feared to have died after being swept away by floods at Mukaa area in Makueni County following heavy rains that pounded the region on Thursday night.

According to a witness who spoke to Citizen Digital, the eight are said to have attempted to cross the Muuoni river, which was already overrun by the floods, at around 10pm.

Many other people were unable to cross over to the other side and reach their homes as the river was overwhelmed by the floodwaters.

Kenya Red Cross Makueni County coordinator Evans Peter said they have since deployed a rescue team to the area.
