Eight people have been confirmed dead, while seven others sustained serious injuries following a fatal road accident that occurred on Tuesday night at Mukhonje trading centre in Lugari Constituency, Kakamega County.
The accident happened along the busy Eldoret–Webuye highway and involved a matatu and a fertilizer-laden truck.
According to witnesses, the matatu, which was traveling from Eldoret, crashed into the rear of a truck that had been parked on the road as the driver attempted to overtake other vehicles.
Maturu Sub-location Assistant Chief Samuel Wamalwa confirmed the incident and said the matatu driver is among those who lost their lives in the crash.
