A 46-year-old businessman in Eldoret on Friday surprised the court by confessing to the charge of forcibly raping a 28-year-old male colleague.

Patrick Imbali who was arraigned before the senior Principal Magistrate Richard Odenyo pleaded guilty to committing the crime while he seemed unmoved by the sentence that awaits him.

The charges said that Mr Imbali raped F.K between March 1 and March 13 in Kambi Mwangi village, Turbo sub-county, on the outskirts of Elodret town.

Despite the prosecutor warning him that the crime he confessed to has a severe punishment, Mr. Imbali maintained that he raped the complainant.

“There is no secret, it is true that I raped the complainant and even I know that we did that,” said the defendant.

However, the prosecutor asked the court to give her more time to read the details of the charges to the accused in detail.

“Since you have confessed to the charges, you will be detained at Eldoret Main Prison pending your return to court for the facts of the relevant charges to be read in detail as requested by the prosecutor,” ordered the Magistrate.

In the same court, another man confessed to the crime of being found with 49 rolls of marijuana and told the court that he uses the marijuana as a drug to give him strength to perform his duties as a husband at home.

“The cannabis found in my possession is not for business, but I use it as a drug to increase my strength to carry out my duties as a man at home among other duties of men like me,” Benson Mwangi told the court.

All cases will be mentioned on March 22.
