A middle-aged man shocked an Eldoret court after confessing that he deals in bhang business as his only source of income.
Appearing before Eldoret resident magistrate Daniel Sitati, Geoffrey Wanjala told the court that he has nothing to hide about his long running bhang business in the outskirts of Eldoret City.
Wanjala was arrested on June 26, 2025 at his house in Lower West Indies, on the outskirts of Eldoret town’s central business district by police officers from Central Police Station who were alerted by members of the public.
Upon conducting a search in his home, the plain clothed police officers discovered a consignment of harvested bhang with an estimated street value of Ksh.750,000.
The court heard that on encountering the police on the said date, the accused attempted to flee to evade arrest after he was found with the illegal drugs.
Prosecution led by Eric Waweru asked the court to detain the accused in Eldoret GK remand prison for two weeks pending analysis of the seized substance by the government chemist to confirm whether it was indeed bhang.
The Magistrate ruled that the accused be escorted to Eldoret GK remand prison until July 14, 2025 when a report on the analysis of the substance from a government chemist will be available in court.
