A man has been sentenced to 36 months (3 years) in prison or to pay a fine of Ksh.100,000 after he pleaded guilty to sending abusive messages to his estranged wife.
The Eldoret court was told that Fidel Ochieng sent offensive messages to Sharon Bwonya using his mobile phone, an act he allegedly carried out between July 10 and July 19 in Eldoret.
The prosecutor told the court that the words Ochieng wrote the messages, which were also addressed to the complainant’s parents, were very vulgar and the court clerk was embarrassed to read them in court.
Defending himself before the Judge Nancy Barasa, the defendant asked the court to forgive him, saying that he wrote the messages out of anger he developed after realizing that his wife, who claimed to love him very much, separated from him due to the influence of her parents.
Giving his verdict, Barasa said the words used by Ochieng were disrespectful to the complainant and her parents.
The accused was given 14 days to appeal.
