Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has blasted President William Ruto’s administration for the proposed 2024/25 Finance Bill, which seeks to impose more taxes on the already burdened Kenyans.
Taking to social media, Abdullahi, commonly referred to as Grand Mulla, wondered why the government is seeking to tax Kenyans more yet they don’t get value for their money.
“Over taxation, especially of goods and services used by mama Mboga and Wanjiku, make governments very unpopular and delegitimised when it doesn’t provide corresponding services or when the taxes are stolen by corrupt civil servants. President William Ruto’s government is going that route full speed,” Abdullahi said.
He added that if more taxes are going to be imposed on people, then those taxes should be properly used to provide services such as good roads, clean drinking water, uninterrupted electricity and proper sewer systems.
“Our government raises taxes every year and we obviously don’t get value for money. We don’t have good roads, health services are in shambles, the education system is almost non-existent, judges make more than lawyers, farmers are suffering because of fake fertilisers and Hon. Mithika Linturi (Agriculture CS) refuses to take responsibility, theft of public money is normal, governors and county officials are stealing like crazy,” he further said.
Grand Mulla said it is time President Ruto engages Kenyans on the new taxes and explains why they are stolen under his watch.
His rant comes a day after the treasury tabled new tax proposals, which among others will see the cost of bread and owning a car in the country go up.
Kenyans have already raised concerns about the proposals, arguing that they are already overtaxed and overburdened.
However, Ruto maintains that everyone has to pay taxes if the country is to self-sustain.
