Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has given his verdict on Chelsea’s Mateo Kovacic, as the Croatian is close to leaving Stamford Bridge for the Etihad.

Kovacic, who is viewed as a possible replacement for Man City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, is close to leaving Chelsea after agreeing on personal terms with Pep Guardiola’s side.

The midfielder is out of contract next year with Chelsea, and the Blues are actively looking to sell players who have 12 months remaining on their deal instead of seeing them leave the club on a free transfer next summer.

Man City were given permission by Chelsea to hold talks with Kovacic earlier this month over a move this summer transfer window.

Speaking on the possibility of Kovacic swapping Chelsea for Man City, Aguero insisted that the player is very good at handling the ball, adding that he has gone through Real Madrid and Chelsea.

“We know that Kovacic is a midfielder with very good ball handling, very much like City. He has gone through Real Madrid, Chelsea, and experience also counts,” Aguero told Stake.

“We will have to see what Ilkay [Gundogan] decides. He has been key at City, and in the last two seasons in particular. I would love for him to continue at the club, although I respect the final decision he makes. He is a great professional and a better person.”
