Emile Smith Rowe could become an option for Arsenal’s No. 9 role after Gabriel Jesus underwent surgery on his knee.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has previously talked about the midfielder’s adaptability.
Jesus is expected to miss a few weeks after he sat out Wednesday’s Emirates Cup game against Monaco.
Eddie Nketiah and Folarin Balogun are the other strikers in Arteta’s squad, while Leandro Trossard slotted into the role several times last season.
There is also the possibility of buying a new frontman, especially if Balogun leaves this summer, but Smith Rowe may be able to save the club some money.
Groin issues kept Smith Rowe out of action for most of last season, as he made only 12 appearances in the league, all from the bench.
