Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has claimed that qualifying for the Champions League is like winning a title this season.

The former Premier League champions defeated Fulham 2-0 on the last day of the campaign to finish in third place.

Ilkay Gundogan and Erling Haaland scored for City at Craven Cottage.

Speaking after the game, Guardiola insisted he is “very proud” of his players. But he also admitted that much improvement is required ahead of next season.

Guardiola told reporters: “Today, it’s a relief because qualification for the Champions League is like winning a title. It’s a fact.

“Finishing third is really nice. It’s not perfect, but we will be in Europe next season in the Champions League.

“So today, maybe people don’t believe it, but it’s absolutely a happy day for us.”
