Former Barcelona striker, Gary Lineker, has backed Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez to compete for the Premier League Golden Boot this season.

Recall that Manchester City’s Erling Haaland won the Premier League Golden Boot last season after scoring a record 36 Premier League goals.

However, Lineker believes Nunez will be among the top contenders to challenge Haaland for the highest goal scorer award this term.

Nunez, 24, is yet to start a game for Liverpool this season.

The Uruguay international made his presence count in their 2-1 win against Newcastle United on Sunday.

He scored a brace to ensure 10-man Liverpool defeated Newcastle at St James’ Park.

“I suspect Darwin Núñez will be up there for the golden boot this season,” Lineker said (h/t @AnythingLFC_ on X).
