Former Chelsea striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has opened up on his experience as part of the large squad at the Blues during their disappointing 2022-2023 season.

Chelsea had a large squad during that season with reports emerging of players having to change outside of the dressing room.

Todd Boehly and the Clearlake Group took charge of Chelsea in 2022.

The club quickly signed the likes of Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Aubameyang in the summer of that year for then former manager Thomas Tuchel.

Speaking with The Athletic, Aubameyang described the large squad as a ‘mess’, adding that he alongside Hakim Ziyech, Denis Zakaria, Kalidou Koulibaly and Romelu Lukaku were laughing every day in the dressing room.

“They did a mess. It didn’t even look like a football dressing room, it was more like rugby,” the former Arsenal and Barcelona star said.

“Hakim Ziyech, Denis Zakaria, Kalidou Koulibaly, Romelu Lukaku… It was good I wasn’t alone.

“We were laughing every day, so it was OK.”

Chelsea went on to finish the 2022-2023 season in 12th position with 44 points.

Chelsea also had four different managers, with Tuchel, Graham Potter, Bruno Saltor, and Frank Lampard taking charge of the team at some point.
