Former Liverpool striker, Peter Crouch has given his only worry about the possibility of Xabi Alonso replacing Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager.
Klopp is leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.
Replacing the German at Anfield will not be easy.
A number of managers have been linked with the job, including Alonso, Ruben Amorim and Roberto De Zerbi.
But it is no secret that top of Liverpool’s shortlist is club legend Alonso who is enjoying a remarkable season in charge of Bayer Leverkusen.
Alonso’s side are top of the Bundesliga table with 10 points with 10 games to go.
They are also unbeaten across all competitions this season, winning 30 of their 35 games so far and scoring 101 goals.
Alonso is the obvious choice to manage Liverpool, but Crouch fears that the Reds vacancy may have come too soon for the Spaniard.
“I think he is the standout candidate. He’s done incredible things at Leverkusen, knows the club [Liverpool] inside out,” Crouch said on TNT Sports.
“I have played with him, I know the person. He is a fantastic person, very studious, was always asking questions and you knew he was going to be a manager.
“But it is very early days and it is a massive club and you have got to follow Jurgen Klopp. Only time will tell.”
