Referee Paul Tierney has been dropped from this weekend’s round of Premier League fixtures.
This follows his error in Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest.
Tierney incorrectly gave the ball back to Liverpool after there was a stop in play for a head injury in the closing minutes.
In the passage of play that following, the Reds went on to score the winner through Darwin Nunez’s header.
The incident left Forest fuming with their manager chasing Tierney to the referees’ room.
Tierney has now been overlooked for an officiating role in the Premier League this coming weekend. But he will act as VAR for Arsenal vs Brentford on Saturday – a match which could be crucial in the title race.
