Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand believes England star Danny Welbeck should have remained at the Red Devils.

Welbeck was a product of Manchester United’s academy and made his way into the first team in 2008.

The striker was loaned out to clubs like Preston North End and Sunderland before coming back to Old Trafford in 2011.

Welbeck played for Man United between 2011 to 2014, contributing 24 goals, and 18 assists in 114 appearances.

However, Ferdinand, who played with Welbeck 71 times at United, winning 41 games and losing 18, told the former Arsenal player that he should have stayed at the club.

Ferdinand’s comments came after Welbeck scored for his current team, Brighton, in a 2-1 game against Liverpool on Sunday.

When asked if he texted Welbeck after the match, Ferdinand said on FIVE (as quoted by HITC):

“Straight in the group chat. Is that what is going on? Nice. Welbz, man! He should have stayed at Manchester United. I always tell him that. He should have stayed.”
