The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has taken action against several Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) manufacturers for alleged malpractices, suspending their licenses as part of enforcement measures.
EPRA published a list on Monday detailing the status of 10 manufacturers, including license suspensions, revocations, fines, warnings, decommissioning, and ongoing investigations.
EPRA stated that these actions followed random surveillance and enforcement exercises aimed at enhancing compliance, security, safety, and consumer protection within the LPG industry.
Offenses cited included refilling LPG into cylinders of other brands without consent, operating unlicensed storage and filling facilities, and obstructing Authority inspections.
Under Section 11(e) of the Energy Act 2019, EPRA is mandated to develop and enforce guidelines ensuring compliance with licensing conditions. Additionally, the Petroleum Act 2019 and Petroleum (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) Regulations 2019 require adherence to licensing terms for LPG businesses.
EPRA conducts surveillance and enforcement regularly to uphold environmental and consumer safety standards. The recent surveillance covered the period from April to June 2024. EPRA encourages the public to report suspected illegal LPG activities through their hotline at 0709 336 000.
