Comedian Eric Omondi has thrown his weight behind Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leader Raila Odinga’s candidature for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson seat.

During a live interview on Ramogi TV, Omondi, who has ventured into philanthropy, lauded Odinga as a Stateman whose time to occupy a global platform has come.

“Baba (Odinga) has truly given his all. He has been at the forefront of protests. Now, it’s his moment to lead. I wholeheartedly endorse his bid for the AUC’s top position,” Omondi remarked.

Omondi also called on the youth to rise to the occasion and take up the mantle.

“It falls upon us, the youth, to step up and carry on the fight. Odinga has played his part, and now it’s our turn,” he said.

Omondi joins a long list of pubic figures, including President William Ruto, who have so far endorsed Mr Odinga’s bid.

In February, President Ruto underscored his deliberate decision to back Odinga for the AUC role, citing Odinga’s commitment to inclusive governance.

“It is now clear that Raila Odinga will be in the race for the AU Commission Chairperson. Effectively, there are no more technical or legal hurdles preventing Kenya from submitting its candidate,” Mr Mudavadi said.

The elections for the AU Commission Chairperson’s seat are slated for February 2025, in what promises to be a pivotal moment in African continental leadership.
