Eric Omondi launches MCA candidate ahead of Muminji by-election in Mbeere North

Humanitarian activist and stand-up comedian Eric Omondi has officially launched his first-ever candidate, Charles Kiura, who is contesting the MCA seat for Muminji Ward in Mbeere North.

The by-election will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026.

In a statement shared on his social media accounts on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Omondi, through his Youth 47 movement, emphasised the need for young and fresh leadership in Kenya.

“So yesterday after we launched Youth 47, we also launched our first-ever candidate, Charles Kiura, who is going for the MCA Muminji ward in Mbeere North,” Omondi said.

“The by-election is set for next month, February 26th. As Youth 47, we believe that a NEW KENYA can only be achieved by a new set of young and fresh leaders.”

Omondi further assured residents of Muminji that Charles Kiura represents the change the community needs.

“To the People of Muminji in Mbeere North we are assuring you that Charles is the Change that you need. LETS VOTE HIM IN. God Bless,” he added.

By-elections

The scheduled mini-polls will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, in Isiolo South Constituency for one Member of National Assembly seat, three Member of County Assembly seats in Muminji Ward and Evurore Ward in Embu County and West Kabras Ward in Kakamega County.

In Muminji ward, its MCA, Newton Kariuki, ditched to contest for the Mbeere North seat and lost it narrowly  to Leonard Wamuthunde of the UDA party

The UDA party revealed that it will field a candidate to contest for the position.

In a statement shared on her social media pages in the early hours of Wednesday, January 7, 2025, nominated senator Veronica Maina, who was the first secretary general of UDA, confirmed that the party primaries will take place in two wards in Mbeere North Constituency, Embu County, as well as West Kabras Ward in Kakamega County.

“We are back to Mbeere North! The journey continues as the UDA party returns to the people to give power back to the grassroots. Party nominations for MCA positions will be conducted in Evurore Ward and Muminji Ward in Mbeere North, Embu County,” Senator Maina said.

The 3 areas kabras westward were left vacant after David Ndakwa, who had been the MCA for 2 terms, resigned to contest for Malava constituency during the November 27, 2025, byelection, where he won with a razor-thin margin

In Evoore ward, Dancun Mbui resigned to contest for Mbeere North Constituency byelections on a Chama Cha Kazi ticket after ditching the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) ticket, where he came in at a distant third.
