Two suspects fleeing a robbery in Parklands, Nairobi, dropped a pistol as police pursued them on Sunday afternoon along Kolobot Road. The incident began when a rider and a pillion passenger snatched a mobile phone from a pedestrian. The victim raised the alarm and grabbed the passenger’s jacket, leading to a brief struggle.
During the scuffle, the suspects dropped a Falcon pistol and fled. The sight of the gun prompted the robbery victim to scream, which drew the attention of police on patrol. Officers secured the pistol, but the suspects escaped towards Murang’a Road with the stolen phone.
The weapon has been taken for ballistic analysis to determine if it has been used in other crimes. Police are continuing their search for the suspects and have reviewed CCTV footage from various locations to track their movements.
In a related incident on Tuesday, two suspected thieves narrowly escaped death after being cornered by residents during a failed robbery near Stima Plaza around 9 a.m. The suspects, a rider and a pillion passenger, had snatched a mobile phone and tried to flee. An alarm was raised, attracting other pedestrians who blocked the motorcycle, pelted the suspects with stones, and set the motorcycle on fire before police arrived.
The suspects were taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Police condemned the mob action and emphasized that suspects should be arrested and processed through legal channels rather than subjected to mob justice.
