Former Manchester United defender, Patrice Evra believes it will be ‘tough’ for both Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to force their way back into the team’s starting XI again after they were benched for the Premier League win over Chelsea on Wednesday.

Man United manager, Erik ten Hag opted to name Rashford and Martial among the subs against Chelsea.

Rashford and Martial were widely criticised by pundits and former players for their displays against Newcastle, with Rasmus Hojlund and Antony coming into the starting XI for them to join Alejandro Garnacho who kept his place in the team against the Blues.

It was Scott McTominay who scored twice to give the Red Devils a 2-1 win against Chelsea.

“He [Ten Hag] put the right players on the pitch and United fans won’t understand if that same team doesn’t play the next game,” Evra told Amazon Prime.

“I will understand if it’s an injury, but I think it will be tough for Marcus and Martial to come back in the starting XI.

“Garnacho had an amazing game, Antony had an amazing game and the work ethic, you can have nothing negative to say about those players.

“So I hope this team will stay [as it is] and it is going to be tough for Marcus and Martial and they will have to fight to get their places back because the kids played very well today.”
