Stephen Nzuki Mutisya, former children’s home director serving 100 years jail term for defiling underage boys, has blamed his former Swiss girlfriend for his woes.
While defending himself in a fresh defilement case involving 13 under-age boys, Stephen Nzuki Mutisya, aged 30, urged Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi to acquit him on all the charges saying he was purely fixed by his three-month-old girlfriend Bridgit Dernendtte Naf, a Swiss national.
“I never defiled the boys whom l loved so much. I couldn’t not and even now l can not defile the children who were placed under my care for mentorship and spiritual guidance,” Mutisya stated amid sobs.
Led in his testimony by defence lawyer John Swaka, Mutisya said the mastermind of all the defilement cases against him before separate courts is his estranged girlfriend Bridgit Naf.
Crying uncontrollably, Mutisya blamed Bridgit for hatching the plot to finish him and ensure he rots in jail, saying that the children were couched to give false testimony against him with a promise that they would be taken to good schools.
“Is it your testimony that the mastermind of your of all these cases is Bridgit your Swiss former girlfriend?” Swaka asked him.
“Yes, she is,” Mustiya responded amid sobs.”
His cries forced the defence lawyer Swaka to suspend his evidence under oath for a few minutes to enable him calm down.
Mutisya faced the wall on the dock and burst into tears as he explained that Bridgit fixed him to take over the management of his children’s home known as Save the Children Reconciliation Education and Assistant Mission (Scream) based in Mihang’o, Kayole, Nairobi County.
“I am in this predicament because of my fallout with my former girlfriend Bridgit who roped International Justice Mission (IJM) to frustrate me and ensure that l rot in jail to take over Scream,” Mustiya told the court.
He told Ochoi that Bridgit has vowed to finish him by ensuring that he gets a long prison term for framed up charges of defiling the young children under his care.
The accused claimed that Bridgit hatched a plot of couching the boys to lie about the defilement which has since turned out to be false.
He said some of the boys have since recanted their statements to the police and declined to testify in court.
“After soul searching the boys have since returned to the police to withdraw the lies saying they can not live with the guilty of fixing their former mentor and helper,” Mutisya stated.
In a sworn affidavit, Mustiya produced letters authored by IJM asking police to arrest and charge him for defilement.
According to the letter by IJM to the DCI, the agency requested the security agency to arrest Mustiya for prosecution.
“Police arrested me as a case study after their three months of training on curbing Serious Crimes and Right violations against women and children. I am a victim of both IJM and Bridgit,” Mutisya said.
Further, the serving convict disclosed that he fell out with his Swiss woman after establishing she was having an affair with a 16-year-old boy at the children’s home.
Mustiya said he caught the woman with the youngster after he was tipped off about the illicit affair by two other children at the facility.
Upon confronting Bridget, the accused claims the woman owned up, saying 16-year-old boys in Switzerland are assumed to be old enough to decide whether to have an affair with a woman of their choice or not.
Mutisya also revealed to the court that he had earlier parted ways with Bridgit who they were living with in his seven-bedroom house in Utawala after finding out that he was also dating another Swiss lady identified as Emel Gose Gobul.
The court was treated to a light moment by Mutisya who said that besides the two Swiss nationals, there was another Swiss woman whom he chased from the country after catching her hooked up at the children’s home cowshed with a 14-year-old boy while kissing.
“I used to protect the children from these randy women who claimed to be donors and volunteers only to end up engaging in illicit affairs with innocent young boys at my organisation,” Mutisya said.
He said that in a further set up the two Swiss former girlfriends instigated donors mainly in Switzerland and Germany against funding the children’s home directly.
“Emel and Bridget in the month of April 2013 agreed to send the money directly to the account of Bridget instead of the accounts of the organization. Thereby disrupting the organisation’s operations,” he added.
Besides the current case, Mutisya alleged that Bridget and IJM instigated a similar defilement case against him at Makadara Law Courts.
He said the boys in question are not willing to testify in the case, adding that some ran away from the safe homes back to him.
Mustiya was last year handed 100 years in jail after being convicted by another magistrate over a similar defilement case.
In all the cases, Mustiya is alleged to have committed the offences between 2010 and 2016 while being the proprietor of the children’s home.
