In Kaditonge village, Homa Bay County, an ex-convict named Steve Omondi was lynched by a mob after being accused of invading a homestead at night and assaulting two people.
Omondi was beaten to death on Monday following an attempted robbery on Sunday night.
According to Jacob Adienge, chief of Kachien North Location, Omondi sneaked into a homestead and attacked a woman as she went outside.
His intention was to steal her mobile phone, but the woman raised an alarm, attracting her mother and a neighbor. Omondi assaulted the woman with a panga and bit her mother’s finger before escaping into the dark.
On Monday, villagers traced and cornered Omondi, attacking him with crude weapons. Police rescued him and rushed him to Rachuonyo South Sub County hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. His body is being preserved at the same facility.
