Detectives drawn from the DCI on Friday, August 18, 2023, arrested a 41-year-old man on suspicion of belonging to a terrorist organisation, Al-Shabaab.
In a statement, police said the terror suspect identified as Ferdinand Indangasi was nabbed in the Riruta area of Dagoretti, Kiambu County, near Skymatt supermarket.
During the intelligence-led operation, sleuths also discovered that Indangasi was an ex-convict who previously served a 15-year jail term at the Shimo La Tewa prison.
This, they say was certified upon conducting a background check of the suspect at the DCI-Anti Terror Police Unit headquarters.
At the time of his arrest, he had at least five sachets of a white narcotic substance believed to be cocaine from his pockets.
On his phone, officers say they found documents related to the terror group.
“Further scrutiny of the suspect’s mobile phone, the officers discovered radicalization literature with extremist teachings, linked to the Al-Shabaab terror network,” part of the statement reads.
Investigators would later proceed for a thorough search of his house where they discovered recovered a firearm loaded with 6 rounds of ammunition, cash, and weapons that they suspect were aimed at carrying out attacks.
The authorities also say the suspect was holding 25Kgs of 4-inch nails “suspected to be used in the assembly of improvised explosive devices.”
“The suspect led detectives to his house located behind the supermarket where upon gaining forceful entry, the detectives recovered a Glock pistol loaded with six rounds of 9mm calibre, Ksh31,000 in cash.”
He is set to be arraigned in court next week.
“The terror suspect is currently being grilled by anti-terror detectives before being arraigned in court on Monday,” the authorities stated.
