18 families in Sakaitim village, in Molo, Nakuru county are in agony after an agent, who had promised to aid their children to travel to Qatar for greener pastures vanished.
The said agent collected Ksh.2800 – 30,000 from them, promise to facilitate their children’s travel to the gulf nation.
“We have nothing, we only do menial jobs for Ksh.200. He switched off his phone after getting Ksh. 30,000 from me. That money had a profit of Ksh. 7,000 per month,” one says.
“I started by sending Ksh. 20,000 then added another 8,000.”
One of them, who is a Person Living With Disability, paid the money hoping that her grandchild would help her once she got a job in Qatar.
Another says that he had to sell his cow to facilitate the travel.
After making the payments, the agent told the 18 families that a bus from Kisii will pick them in Molo, and transport then to Nairobi, where they would leave to Qatar the next day. They would add Ksh. 500 to facilitate the travel.
“After paying the bus fare, his phone went off. Now the people that I borrowed the money are after me, I can not sleep.”
They have reported the case to Molo police station, hoping the suspect, who disguised himself as a man of God, will be caught.
