It needed a photo-finish to separate, but Ferdinand Omanyala finally clinched his first ever victory in the Diamond League, dipping under 10 seconds to win in Monaco on Friday night in a time of 9.92.
Omanyala narrowly edged out former World U20 Champion Letsile Tebogo, dipping his head across the line to edge out the Botswana youngster who timed 9.93.
The Kenyan Commonwealth Games champion showed a bit more improved acceleration from the blocks, as he picked up pace just after 30m, pumping up to edge out the lanky Tebogo who had threatened to spoil the party.
Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake was third in 10.00, while namesake, former Olympic and World Champion Yohann Blake was fourth in 10.01.
The victory will be a massive boost of confidence for the 26-year old Kenyan who is preparing for the World Championships in Budapest.
After Monaco, Omanyala will head for a race in Austria on Juy 29, before shifting his attention to Budapest.
