Police on Wedneday, December 6, evening shot dead a suspected gangster in Juja Kiambu, and recovered a firearm as his two accomplices escaped with injuries after the trio had attempted to rob a motorist.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DVI) said the deceased engaged the police in a fierce gun battle together with his colleagues before they were overpowered by the sleuths.

The shooting led to the arrest of two suspected criminals following their arrest during an operation at Theta area in Kiambu County.

Police believe 45-year-old Elijah Mwangi Muthoni and David Mitamo aged 21 are part of a syndicate that has been terrorizing members of the public within the city and its environs.

DCI said the trio had attacked a male motorist and forced themselves inside his car before robbing him of cash through M-Pesa.

“Three miscreants had accosted a male victim who was driving home at around 9pm. Armed with pistols and crude weapons, the men forced their entry into his white Toyota Passo, before robbing him of his day’s earnings which were transferred from his M-Pesa account,” DCI said in a statement.
