Five suspects have been arrested in Kisii Town in a crackdown on a suspected narcotics syndicate, where cannabis worth about Ksh.2 million and counterfeit alcohol were seized.
The Friday morning operation was conducted by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) with the support of a specialised police unit. It targeted several locations linked to a group believed to be running a large-scale drug trafficking network.
Among those arrested is the wife of Geoffrey Nyabira, a fugitive who is facing an ongoing drug trafficking case at the Kisii Law Courts. Authorities say Nyabira escaped during the raid but remains under active pursuit.
NACADA Chief Executive Officer Anthony Omerikwa said the suspect is a repeat offender who has resumed illegal activities despite facing charges. Sales records recovered from his residence allegedly show that, hours before the raid, he supplied cannabis worth more than Ksh.1 million to distributors.
“Let this be a warning to all drug dealers: NACADA will not relent. We are pursuing Nyabira and his entire network with every resource at our disposal. No stone will be left unturned until this poison is eradicated from our communities,” DR Omerikwa warned.
Police also confiscated counterfeit alcoholic beverages from a wines and spirits outlet linked to Nyabira, pointing to multiple streams of suspected illicit business.
The arrested suspects are being held at Nyanchwa Police Station and are expected to be charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act. Authorities say further arrests may follow as investigations continue.
