The Wiper Party, led by Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, is intensifying its efforts to establish a stronger presence across Kenya ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party is preparing to launch a nationwide recruitment drive aimed at enlisting five million new members. This move is expected to strengthen Wiper’s position in the upcoming polls and challenge the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Young Wiper Democrats Secretary General Mbula Mutula stated that the party will focus on attracting more members from Generation Z, emphasizing that Wiper resonates with both Kenyans and the younger generation. Speaking during a press conference in Thika, Mutula highlighted that Wiper is currently the official opposition party, following ODM’s cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Several top ODM politicians joined President William Ruto’s cabinet after this agreement.
Mutula stressed that the goal of the recruitment drive is to fortify the party and enable it to effectively check the government’s power. “Wiper is the only party keeping the current regime in check. We want to popularize and strengthen the party to create a strong opposition and propel our leader to State House in 2027,” she said.
To ensure the success of the campaign, the Young Wiper Democrats arm has revamped its leadership to make it more inclusive, gender-sensitive, and regionally balanced. Key leaders elected include Nixon Birundu (Chairman), Mbula Mutula (Secretary General), Catherine Wambua (Treasurer), and Benedict Ngubao (Organizing Secretary), among others.
Birundu said that they will adopt a door-to-door campaign strategy, exuding confidence that the exercise will be successful in all regions across the country.
“We have established a strong team that will move to every corner of this country to enlist new members. We are aware that Kenyans are ready to join a force that will champion for the rights and interests of Kenyans,” Birundu said.
Birindu also noted that the drive will be key in propelling the Party leader Kalonzo to State House in 2027.
He noted that the journey to dislodge President William Ruto from the House on the Hill in the coming polls is unstoppable.
At the same time, they reiterated that Wiper is encouraging and empowering more women to step into elective leadership positions in the next general elections.
