The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has reached out to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for a joint effort in investigating goalkeeper Patrick Matasi over alleged match manipulation.

The federation engaged the two state agencies to aid in the probe after the Harambee Stars and Kakamega Homeboyz shot-stopper was caught in undated videos which surfaced online on Thursday, seemingly ‘sealing’ a deal with an individual believed to be a recruiter.

FKF said Kenya lacks a law that criminalizes match-fixing but said manipulating matches was akin to obtaining money by false pretense contrary to section 313 of the Penal Code.

“The federation appreciates that the said actions of match manipulating are not expressly provided for within our criminal justice system but remains committed to curbing this vice the involvement of public authorities,” read part of the FKF letter to DCI.

“Your assistance in this matter will be highly appreciated as the Federation works towards curbing this vice and engaging the relevant body for the necessary legislative amendments to criminalise this vice.”

Matasi was suspended for 90 days as the FKF launched internal investigations into the matter that has tainted the country’s image.

“This decision, made in accordance with Section VII (2) of the FKF Anti-Match Manipulation Regulations (2016), has been formally communicated to Kakamega Homeboyz FC and the player,” stated FKF on Thursday.

Matasi has been conceding some ‘cheap goals’ both in the national team and his former station Kenya Police FC which have recently raised eyebrows with recent being two questionable goals against Cameroon in a 4-1 loss during the 2025 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers which dimmed Kenya’s chances of qualifying for the championship.
