A flight attendant turned an alarming mid-flight moment into a heartwarming act of kindness after she caught a baby who had begun slipping from the lap of an exhausted, sleeping mother.
The incident took place aboard a United Airlines flight 3486 travelling from New Jersey to Michigan.
How the Story Went
Viral Flight attendant Monique Harris noticed the dozing mother just in time and caught the child before any harm could occur.
She then gently encouraged the mother to continue resting, offering to hold the baby herself for the remainder of the time.
Passenger John Frehse witnessed the scene and posted about it on Instagram, crediting Harris by name.
He also tagged United chief executive Scott Kirby directly in the post, making clear he wanted the airline’s leadership to take notice.
“United should be very proud,” Frehse wrote, describing how the new mother had nodded off when her baby was “about to fall out of her lap.”
Monique Responds to the Praise He explained that Monique not only sprang into action and caught the child but also told the mother to go back to sleep as she would give her a break.
Frehse, a frequent flyer with United, also shared a photograph appearing to show Harris cradling the baby on board the aircraft.
“She is an A+ employee,” he added. “Take note!!!” “All is not lost in the turbulent time.”
The flight attendant was visibly moved when the post began attracting widespread attention. Responding in the comments section, Harris wrote:
“I’m in tears,” before stressing that recognition had never been her motivation. “I never do anything for recognition,” she said.
Monique added that she had no idea that being her normal, natural self would grow into such a priceless moment.
