Tanzania will host this year’s Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) tournament from July 2 to August 4. The event, which was last held in Dar es Salaam in 2021, will feature top-flight champions from the 12 member associations, including Zanzibar. Additionally, four other invited teams will participate in the tournament. CECAFA Executive Director John Auka Gecheo stated that the competition will serve as an excellent rehearsal for the CAF Champions League.

“We are glad that this tournament will be returning after two years to provide a brilliant preseason platform for the teams to prepare better before the start of the 2024/2025CAF Champions League, CAF Confederations Cup and the different Leagues back home.”

In the last tournament held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in 2021, Uganda’s Express FC emerged victorious by defeating guest side Nyasa Big Bullets from Malawi 1-0 in the final. Tanzanian club Simba SC holds the record for the most titles, having won the tournament six times. This is one more than their compatriots Young Africans SC and Tusker FC from Kenya. Other past winners include APR FC from Rwanda, Al Merriekh from Sudan, and SC Villa from Uganda, while Kenya’s Gor Mahia FC has lifted the trophy three times.
