National Super League team Nzoia Sugar FC is urgently seeking a new coach following the unexpected departure of their former coach, Mike Mururi, and his assistant, who did not return to camp ahead of the new season.
In light of this situation, the club’s management is acting quickly to find a replacement who can lead the team through the upcoming challenges. Former player Peter Ginn has taken on the role of interim coach while the search for Mururi’s successor is ongoing.
Nzoia Sugar FC Chairman Yepets Mokua confirmed to Citizen Digital that the process of finding a new coach is already underway.
“We are working quickly to find a new coach as soon as possible. We must get someone who can step in immediately and begin preparations with the team,” Mokua stated.
However, the search comes with its own set of challenges.
Mokua highlighted the club’s financial constraints, noting that they are looking for a coach who is not only skilled but also mindful of the club’s financial realities.
“We want a coach who will understand our financial situation. We are waiting for direction from the club’s board to address this matter,” he added, indicating that the final decision will be made with the club’s long-term sustainability in mind.
Alongside the coaching changes, Nzoia Sugar FC is also undergoing squad adjustments. Chairman Mokua announced that their captain, Thomas Haron, has left the club to join another NSL team, Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA), marking a significant change in the team’s leadership.
Despite this setback, Mokua remains optimistic, emphasizing the club’s commitment to recruiting young players to fill the gap left by Haron’s departure.
“Our priority is to build a strong, youthful squad that can compete at the highest level. We believe in nurturing talent, and this presents an opportunity to bring in fresh blood that will drive the team forward,” Mokua explained.
The coming weeks are critical for the club, as the decisions made now will likely shape their performance in the months ahead after they failed to retain their Premier League status last season.
