Former presidential candidate Waihiga Mwaure lands state job

Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry Cabinet Secretary (CS) Soipan Tuya has appointed former presidential candidate David Mwaure Waihiga to be the chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the National Environment Trust Fund.

In a gazette notice dated April 20, 2023, the CS said Mwaure will serve for a period of three years effective immediately.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 24 (3) of the Environmental Management and Co-ordination Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry appoints David Mwaure to be the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the National Environment Trust Fund,” the gazette notice read in part.

Mwaure concedes defeat

Mwaure, who was one of the four presidential candidates in last year’s election, is the only one who conceded defeat and recognised William Ruto as the duly elected President of Kenya.

“Truth be told, we were presidential candidates, we were also at Bomas. We saw the figures rolling down with our naked eyes in favour of  President William Ruto, defeating the three of us, hands down.

“We instructed our chief agent to sign last Form C to confirm Ruto’s win, while others refused to,” he said shortly after Ruto was declared the winner of the August 9, 2022, presidential election.

Mwaure garnered 31,987 votes behind Ruto (7,176,141), Raila Odinga (6,942,930), and George Wajackoyah (61,969).
