Former Chilean international Jorge Valdivia has been arrested on suspicion of r@pe, according to prosecutors.

Valdivia, a renowned attacking midfielder who played a pivotal role in Chile’s 2015 Copa America victory, was detained following allegations made by a woman after an encounter in Santiago.

The woman, a tattoo artist, claims she met Valdivia at a Peruvian restaurant in Santiago’s Providencia district to discuss tattoo designs. After consuming two cocktails, she allegedly experienced a memory blackout and woke up in Valdivia’s apartment the following morning. She later filed a formal complaint after Valdivia confirmed they had engaged in sexual activity.

Valdivia has denied the allegations, stating, “I had a consensual relationship with an adult woman.” He has expressed his willingness to cooperate fully with the investigation, urging the public to respect his right to innocence.

As a result of the ongoing legal proceedings, Prisa Media, which owns Radio ADN where Valdivia works as a football commentator, has announced his suspension until the case is resolved in court.
