Four people died and eight are still hospitalized following a suspected food poisoning incident in Kuria West sub-county, Migori county.
Kuria West sub county police Commander Mr.Cleti Kimaiyo said the police received a report from members of the public that some people from Kubweye and Kunguku villages had been hospitalized at Samjomen medical facility following a suspected food poisoning incident.
Kimaiyo said the officers from Isebania police station visited the facility at Mabera area and confirmed that four people who are David Marwa aged 52 years,Nyasenso Hisingo aged 55 years,Mwita Manaigwa aged 45 years and Samson Moti aged 52 years had succumbed .
He stated that eight people who consumed the food and illicit liquor were also treated at Samjomen medical facility before being transferred to Migori level four hospital for further treatment, adding that their conditions are still being monitored.
The subcounty police commander said the report from Samjomen hospital indicates that the patients had difficulties in breathing, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain when they were brought to the facility.
Mr.Kimaiyo said the bodies of the four who succumbed have been taken to Akidiva hospital mortuary pending autopsy and police investigations.
He said the police visited the home of one of the deceased identified as Nyasenso Hisingo in Kubweye village where the victims allegedly ate and drank.
