Kenya Power has announced that power interruptions will occur in four regions on Monday, September 18, 2023.
In a statement, the electricity provider on Sunday, September 17, 2023, said that the blackout would result from routine power maintenance.
“Good evening, please receive tomorrow’s planned shutdown,” a statement seen by Nairobi News read in part.
In the Nairobi Region, the Mwimuto area will experience a blackout. Specific areas include the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) in Kitusuru, Tate Close, Forward Close, and adjacent customers.
Parts of Kiambu County will also be affected. Specific areas include; Mutomo, Ikuma, Kiamwangi, Nginduri, Gatitu Girls, Muhoho High School, Gitare, Kiganjo, Chura, Handege, Ihura, Gitwe, Gachika, Theta Tea Factory, Mundoro, Gathiru, Gathiringa, Karangi and adjacent customers.
Trans Nzoia County will also be affected. The parts that will not have electricity include Sinyereri, Namba Nne, Co-operative, Sitatunga, Kabolet, Kapsara Market, Kapsara Factory and adjacent customers.
In Murang’a County, the areas that will be affected include Karurumo, Kirui Market, Ichini Market, Gatara Market, Mununga High School, Gathaithi Market, Kaganda, Gacharage, Gikoe, Mukoma, Boro, Kinyona, Karinga, Kangari Market, Iumbi, Mariira, and Kigumo.
Other areas within the same county include Muthithi, Kirere, Marumi, Ngonda, Gatumbi, Githumu, Kigoro, Ndunyu Chege, Kandederu, Makomboki, Kiriaini, Gathanji, Rwegetha and adjacent customers.
Most businesses get affected whenever there are power interruptions, with the owners being left counting losses.
Three weeks ago, the country was thrown into a national blackout, which affected most operations, including at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
This saw Members of Parliament (MPs) summon Energy Cabinet Secretary (CS) Davis Chirchir and Kenya Power CEO Joseph Siror to appear before the House’s Committee on Energy.
The Energy Committee, chaired by Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka, wants the pair to account for the factors that led to the outage comprehensively.
