Last week, more than four individuals were arrested for drug possession, with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) seizing drugs valued at over Ksh1.6 million. Earlier this year, the DCI declared a war on drugs and traffickers, leading to significant crackdowns on drug dens and the confiscation of various hard drugs, including bhang, cocaine, and heroin, in an effort to combat drug trafficking in the country.
On Thursday, undercover detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) apprehended a drug trafficker who was posing as a passenger. The suspect, Bioma Alice Gbassay from Sierra Leone, was intercepted at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by ANU detectives, who discovered 1,080 grams of cocaine in her bag.
Bioma was going through security checks when the DCI detectives caught her. After arriving in Kenya en route to Mumbai, she was escorted to the immigration offices, where her luggage was retrieved from the baggage hall and taken to the Anti-Narcotics office.
Following a thorough search of her body and belongings, detectives found suspected narcotic drugs hidden in several locations. A whitish substance wrapped in clear tape was recovered from her inner garments, and two slabs of dove soap concealing a suspicious powdery substance were also found in her luggage.
