Police in Eldoret have arrested a fourth suspect linked to last month’s brutal killing of a 20-year-old student.

The suspect, Benjamin Njenga, an Eldoret town service matatu operator, had fled to Nairobi after allegedly attacking and killing the slain Form Four leaver, Ahmed Mohammed Ismael.

A police report indicates that the suspect committed the offence jointly with three others on June 2nd, 2023 in West Indies in the Turbo sub-county, Uasin Gishu County.

Njenga was arraigned before Eldoret High Court Judge Reuben Nyakundi but did not take plea after the police successfully applied to detain him for seven days to conclude investigations.

His three co-accused persons, among them a woman, pleaded not guilty to killing the teenager by hitting him with a blunt object and a stone in the fateful daytime incident. The trio includes Juliet Ayieta, Paul Osinde and Gregory Mukhori.

Their plea-taking came after they were declared mentally fit before their lawyer Elijah Ayiego to stand trial following an assessment conducted at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.

The Judge ordered the prosecution led by Mark Mugun to serve the accused persons with the relevant documents within a period of 14 days pending the mention of their case on October 2nd.

The suspects who are being held at Eldoret GK remand prison reportedly subjected the deceased to mob justice in connection with the theft of a mobile phone belonging to a college student.

According to a police report, the irate mob pursued and caught up with the deceased where they allegedly stoned him to death at the gate of the hostel where the victim was staying.

The suspect, who is being held in custody at Eldoret central police station will be taken back to the court on August 15th for mentioning of his case.
