The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) Board has appointed Frank Mwiti as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective May 2, 2024.

Mr. Mwiti is an accomplished business leader with over two decades of diverse, international, and professional experience in strategy, governance, business development, risk management, corporate finance, mergers & acquisitions, and performance improvement.

He is the outgoing Partner and Eastern Africa market leader at Ernst & Young (EY), and has previously worked as a Manager, Banking and Capital Markets Advisory at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

He has also served as a Management Consultant in Investment Banking at Deutsche Bank, UK.

He founded Afrika Kapital in the UK, and as CEO and Managing Director, advised Deutsche Bank and Lloyds Banking Group across various sectors such as forex, equities, fixed income, commodities, synthetics, and listed derivatives in financial hubs globally.

NSE Board Chairman Kiprono Kittony congratulated Mr. Mwiti on his appointment and noted that the Board will accord him the necessary support to succeed in his role.

“The Board is delighted to welcome Mr. Mwiti to the NSE. We are extremely confident of Mr. Mwiti’s strategic capabilities and exceptional experience across frontier, emerging, and developed financial markets and will play a critical role in accelerating the next phase of growth of the NSE as well as support the Government’s capital markets agenda,” said Mr. Kittony.

The NSE Board Chair also thanked outgoing CEO Geoffrey Odundo “for his dedicated service and stellar performance.”

To ensure a smooth transition of management responsibilities from Mr. Odundo to Mr. Mwiti, the Board has appointed David Wainaina as the Acting Chief Executive Officer, effective from March 2, 2024, till May 1, 2024.

Mr. Wainaina is currently the NSE Chief Operating Officer (COO). He has more than 18 years of experience in the capital market and played a pivotal role in executing critical projects such as the automation of equities and fixed-income markets for the Bourse.
