On Monday (August 28) night, the Kenya Power Company issued an announcement detailing scheduled power interruptions that are set to affect three counties on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. These planned interruptions are a result of essential network maintenance activities.

The statement from the electricity provider indicated that the impacted regions encompass Nairobi, the North Eastern region, and the coastal region.

This preemptive measure aims to ensure the power network’s efficiency and reliability while facilitating necessary maintenance tasks.

The bustling capital city, Nairobi will witness specific areas undergoing power interruptions. These include Parklands, Regal Plaza, segments of Limuru Road, Batubatu Gardens, Ita Road, Aga Khan Hospital, Mtama Road, Iregi Road, Status Apartments, and Aga Khan Academy.

Additionally, localities such as Swamibapa Road, City Park Estate, Wambugu Road, Wambugu Lane, and Wambugu Groove, among others, will also experience temporary blackouts.

Even Kibera, the largest slum in the country, will not be exempt from the scheduled disruptions. Areas within Kibera, including Kibera Lainisaba, AMREF Kibera, Undugu, Darajani, and adjacent regions, will be impacted by the power interruptions.

Power interruptions in the North Eastern Region will affect Tinganga and Sasini areas. The planned interruptions will extend to Kamondu Farm, Tinganga Social Center, Ngemwa, St. Joseph the Worker, Gituamba, Ngemwa Police Station, Tinganga Secondary School, and nearby customers.

In the Coastal Region, parts of Mombasa County are also slated for scheduled power interruptions.

Impacted areas include Junda, Kadongo, Mwisho wa Lami, Taifa Flats, Kadonzo, Mlango Saba, Ocean Diary, Kajweni, Concordia Primary School, Vikwatani, Coast General Referral Mtopanga, Chembani, Mtopanga Estate, Manoni, Kiembeni Blue Estate, Kashani Bombo, Kiembeni Green Estate, Ugatuzi Estate, Loma Estate, and adjacent customers.

This set of power interruptions arrives on the heels of a nationwide blackout experienced just three days ago, which plunged the entire country into darkness.

The blackout on Friday evening had significant ramifications, disrupting various businesses and activities, including Jomo Kenyatta International Airport operations.

Kenya Power Company attributed the widespread blackout to a system disturbance, leading to the loss of power supply across multiple regions.

As the scheduled interruptions unfold, residents and businesses within the affected counties are advised to make necessary preparations to minimize any inconveniences caused by the temporary power outages.
