Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is currently recovering at Karen Hospital in Nairobi, where he has been admitted since Thursday, October 17. Initially, doctors informed the press that the DP would need to stay for 48 to 72 hours for monitoring. The medical team continues to provide Gachagua with essential care while keeping a close eye on his recovery. Access to him has been restricted to specific timeframes to ensure he gets the necessary rest.
A recent spot-check by Citizen TV noted that the heavy security presence at Karen Hospital, which was prominent on Thursday, has since been reduced. This change follows the Senate’s decision to uphold Gachagua’s impeachment. However, a court order has since suspended this Senate impeachment, complicating the situation for Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, who was poised to assume the Deputy President’s office.
Leaders, including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, have urged the government to restore Gachagua’s security, emphasizing his position as the country’s second-in-command. “The last line of defense in this country now is our Judiciary. When we were attending this funeral service here, we learned that Justice Chacha Mwita has issued conservatory orders suspending the decision of the Senate to impeach Gachagua last evening,” Kalonzo stated on Friday.
