Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua convened a meeting with Kiambu Members of County Assembly (MCAs) on Wednesday, to discuss the fallout between them and their Governor Kimani Wamatangi, whose impeachment is looming.

The meeting, held at Gachagua’s Karen residence, brought together MCAs from Kiambu, and is aimed at finding an amicable solution on their tiff with Governor Wamatangi.

In a Statement on X, Gachagua said that the National Government, led by President William Ruto, is aware of the friction between Wamatangi and the MCAs.

“The Ruto Administration roots for a strong devolution, and therefore, we have no room for squabbles that will derail service delivery to the people,” said the Deputy President.

He also emphasized the importance of a seamless collaboration between the Executive and Legislative branches of the County Government to achieve the primary goal of devolution, which is to drive and sustain development.

After a sit down with MCAs, Gachagua is also set to meet Members of Parliament from the region and the Governor himself.

Addressing a congregation at Kiambu ACK Church on Sunday, November 6, Gachagua expressed his commitment to unify the County’s leadership, saying his role is to ensure that Kiambu County thrives and does not suffer from internal conflicts.

“We cannot let Kiambu go to the dogs, and so I have set aside the whole day tomorrow (Monday) to find out what the problem is,” he added.

This comes on the heels of concerns raised by some Kiambu MCAs regarding Governor Wamatangi’s governance. The MCAs threatened to impeach Wamatangi within 21 days.

The ward representatives lamented that their efforts to have the Governor appoint managers for the county’s six municipalities, which they believe are at risk of losing annual funding from the World Bank worth Ksh1.3 billion, have gone unheeded

They also called for investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) into the utilization of public funds under Wamatangi’s leadership.
