Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua returned to the mountain-Mt Kenya early Saturday morning to thank God for the rains which have been pounding parts of the country.

Speaking at the foot of the mountain after solemn silent prayers, Gachagua said it was important to be grateful to God for the gift of rain.

“Once a prayer has been granted, we must come back and thank God for His deeds,” he said.

Gachagua said the rains are key for the farmers in the food basket counties who produce maize and other harvests, especially now that more than 5.4 million Kenyans are facing starvation.

The Deputy President said that a visit to the mountain is significant because it was a symbolic inspiration and hope for the Mau Mau freedom fighters who drove out the colonialist with only a machete, spear and a stick despite the sophisticated weapons of their opponents.

He added that while the Kenya Kwanza is only six months in office, political freedom which was one of the reasons for the Mau Mau rebellion has been achieved. The Government, led by President William Ruto, is already performing well in reviving the economy.

The Deputy President said he will continue working and mentoring youthful leaders from the Mount Kenya region and across the country to avoid gaps when seniors leave the stage.

Gachagua was joined for the early morning prayers by Kieni MP Wainaina Njoroge and Nyandarua County Senator John Methu.
